i got you on my time (my time)

At the risk of turning this lifestream-like object into a poor man's MTV, this Minus the Bear song - and the video - is hella kick ass.

think i'll start wearing a seatbelt now

I'll be the first to admit that I don't always wear my seatbelt. OK - Amanda nags me about this constantly - I rarely wear a seatbelt. This PSA from the UK is pretty damn effective...

bohemian muppetry

Sure, all the social media nerds (I mean "experts") are spreading this video around on Twitter, but it's still pretty good. This weekend, my daughter watched her first Muppet movie (not THE Muppet Movie but Muppet Treasure Island) so this reminds me of her. I'll have to show it to her over Thanksgiving weekend.

writer's block

From Steve Martin:

Writer's block is a fancy term made up by whiners so they can have an excuse to drink alcohol. Sure, a writer can get stuck for a while, but when that happens to a real author -- say, a Socrates or a Rodman -- he goes out and gets an "as told to." The alternative is to hire yourself out as an "as heard from," thus taking all the credit. The other trick I use when I have a momentary stoppage is virtually foolproof, and I'm happy to pass it along. Go to an already published novel and find a sentence that you absolutely adore. Copy it down in your manuscript. Usually, that sentence will lead you to another sentence, and pretty soon your own ideas will start to flow. If they don't, copy down the next sentence in the novel. You can safely use up to three sentences of someone else's work -- unless you're friends, then two. The odds of being found out are very slim, and even if you are there's usually no jail time.

Love this. And I can attest that the drinking part is true. Thanks to @jquig99 for sending the link my way.

a perfect 10

The door of Amanda's and my room at the Surf Lodge in Montauk, Long Island. Taken during the summer with my Panasonic Lumix G1 and processed on my iPhone using the Best Camera app.

my new obsession

@jquig99 sent me a Diana Mini for my birthday and as soon as I can figure out how to load the film without shredding it (trust me, putting real film into an analogue camera isn't like riding a bike - I've more than forgotten how to do it) I am looking forward to learning how to take "real" pictures.

youtube's greatest hits

Even though this clip seems to be missing a handful of the actual Top 100 clips on YouTube (if you go by views), it's still a pretty ambitious mash-up of a lot of the most popular.

Might make a nice presentation intro one day.

orbital: you lot

Listening to Orbital "You Lot" at 30,000 feet. Haven't listened to the brothers Hartnoll in years. Good shit...

You are becoming Gods
There's a new master of creation, and it's you
You've unraveled DNA
And at the same time, you're cultivating
Bacteria strong enough to kill every living thing
D'you think you are ready for that much power?
You lot? You lot?

hempstead rock city

I'm an unapologetic KISS fan - have been since the 70s (although even I'll admit I took a few years off during the no-make-up years) and have seen the band perform something like a dozen times since 1979.

Tonight makes a dozen and one -- taking the girls to see The Hottest Band in the World at Nassau Coliseum tonight. After a solid week of hard work (while rockin' to the new KISS album Sonic Boom, I must admit) I'm looking forward to a couple of hours of pure, escapist entertainment. And pyrotechnics, of course.

That is, unless the 23-year-old or 6-year-old drag me out 2 minutes into the opening song. If that happens, then this kick ass Jimmy Kimmel Live performance of Detroit Rock City will have to do...

damn right your dad played d&d

Funny spoof of those annoying "Damn Right Your Dad Drank It" Canadian Club ads - and erm, yeah, I played D&D in junior high. Never dressed up like an orc though (OK - once, maybe twice, but I swear that was it.)

turn your digital photos into polaroid prints

Just discovered a web service call Rollip (http://rollip.com) lets you turn any digital photo into a Polaroid… and actually order physical prints. Fun and cool (in a geeky way) but it could make for an interesting calling card / business card as well.

Field Notes memo books in my signature "Verdino Green" (so what if they call it something different)? How can I not sign up for a 100 Colors subscription just so I can get a 3-pack of these bad boys...
